Soon after I moved into my apartment, I bought a vase but told myself I would never buy flowers. That was reserved for a future boyfriend.
I’ve always LOVED flowers, so I figured I might as well be ready for that special moment.
The vase had been sitting there for a full year, never used.
Whenever I’m in the grocery store, I can’t help but look at the flowers. Sometimes, I walk by and quickly peek. Other times, I look a little more closely and think about which bouquet I like the most.
I always tell myself “No.. You should wait for the moment you’ve always dreamed of.”
But alas.. My time had come. It was the last day of the year, December 31st. As I was making my way to the checkout lines at the grocery store, I passed the flowers and had to take a look. I was like “You know what.. I can’t wait forever.” And instead of holding off for a moment that might not happen for another several months or years, I told myself to go for it.
I saw a beautiful white and pink bouquet that I was instantly drawn to. It made me think of love, especially self love. It made me think of how far I’ve come. It made me think of a beautiful year ahead.
I took it home and placed it into my vase. It was a big moment for me. Letting go of this idealized version of my life and just living. Appreciating this season of life I’m currently in.
The bouquet sits in my kitchen, and I’ve been adoring it ever since. What an amazing way to start this year.

If you’ve been reserving things (items, experiences, activities) for when you have a boyfriend, I hope I inspire you to live your life. Life is so short and unpredictable. You don’t know how much time you have left, and you don’t know when you’ll have a boyfriend.
Buy those flowers and treat yourself because you deserve it. You’re special enough to buy yourself flowers with no reason at all.
